Diamonds ETF
Trading Defined and Explained
The Dow
Jones Industrial Average is the oldest and most widely
recognized stock market index. The stock market is measured in
great part by the Dow moving up or down.
The Dow is the primary barometer. The
Dow Diamonds, or (DIA), is an
exchange-traded fund that holds the 30 stocks that comprise the
Dow
index.

Prices/Rates
Unlike the
Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500, which are based on the market
value of the underlying stocks, the Dow ETF is
price weighted. When trading the Diamonds ETF,
traders must remember that the higher the price of the stock,
the greater its weight in the Dow.

Trading Information
The Dow
Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) was created by the
founder of the Wall Street Journal, Charles Dow,
in 1884. It initially included 12 stocks, and was increased to
30 stocks in 1928. Unlike the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500, the
Dow is not changed on a regular basis.
In 1999, the inclusion of
Intel and Microsoft was big news, as it marked the first time in
history that non-New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) issues had been
added to the Dow index.

Trading Advice
ETFs are index
funds at their root, so ETF investors should study the
philosophy of index investing which downplays stock picking in
favor of buying the market. However, unlike most traditional
index funds, investors can take an active approach to trading
and profit-taking. The Dow Diamonds ETF
follows this
architecture.
