The Inc. 5000 developed from the Inc. 500, which Inc. introduced in 1982, but digs further to offer the most complete look at the entrepreneurial spirit of the U.S. economy. The Inc. 5000 companies are ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2004 through 2007. To be eligible, companies must have been established and generating revenue by the first week of 2004 so they have four full calendar years of sales.  The 5000 companies cover a broad scope that consists of multiple industries, including media and travel to IT services and software, the category that includes Market Technologies.
